Cheesecake is Technically Pie Not Cake While its called cheesecake because cheesecake is generally unleavened and usually has a crustwhether that crust is baked or notits is really a form of pie.
Is cheesecake a pie. If so there is a crust on the cheesecake which would seem to sway it towards pie but cheesepie just sounds gross. Water is wet the sky is blue cakes are cakes and pies are pies. Trim the sides of the crust if the pie is a little too big.
With a minor change in appearance any pastry that is a crumb crust filled with custard and baked in my mind is a pie. Farmers cheese cheesecake is the contemporary implementation for the traditional use of baking to preserve fresh cheese and often is baked in a pie shell along with fresh fruit like a tart. That something must be either cake or pie.
What makes a pie a pie and a cake a cake. A cheesecake is a baked custard that is similar to a cream pie. Cheesecake is not a pie because it lacks a proper crust.
Cheesecake originated in ancient Greece and it was a cake with ground cheese in it. Turn off the oven and crack the oven door. It can also be a cake but it cant not be a pie.
The cheesecake stands alone. The addition of cream cheese is no more a disqualifier than the addition of bourbon would be. So in short a cheesecake is a pie.
So in short a cheesecake is a pie. And then theres the fact that the cream is usually cooked on the stove while the cheesecake is cooked in the oven. Its smooth and creamy like all cheesecake should be and the tablespoon of vanilla ensures that theres plenty of flavor to complement the cream cheese tang.
